Taekwondo and Athletics on Penultimate Day

Day 15Kelly Holmes won 1500m Gold in AthensThirty medals are available on the penultimate day of competition.

We are going to see the Sarah Stevenson in the preliminary rounds of the Taekwondo in the morning, and then returning to the Olympic Stadium for the final day of Athletics, which includes the 4 x 400m relays.

Sarah Stevenson has been World Champion in the Heavyweight division of Taekwondo.

In the Stadium, the Athletics Women's 4x400m Relay team of Lee McConnell, Christine Ohuruogu , Nicola Sanders , Vicki Barr and Donna Fraser could also be in medal contention.

Bradley Saunders is a medal contender in the Light welterweight (-64kg) division. Bantamweight (-54kg) Joe Murray is another possibility for a medal.

Taekwondo Team for Beijing 2008

Team GB for Beijing 2008TaekwondoThe British Olympic Association (BOA) have selected the Taekwondo members of Team GB for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

Michael Harvey was named ahead of Tyrone Robinson for the -58kg event, despite the fact that Robinson had earned the quota slot.

Cook wins Gold at World Juniors

Olympic place for Aaron CookTaekwondoAaron Cook won the Gold Medal at the World Junior Championship in Izmir, Turkey.

Medals in the Men's -78kg category

Gold Medal : Cook Aaron (Great Britain)
Silver Medal : Yeong Rae Shin (Korea)
Bronze Medals : Keles Celal (Turkey) & Xinwei Wang (China)

The Taekwondo Men’s -80kg category takes place on 22nd August 2008.

Four European Taekwondo medals

Olympic place for Tyrone RobinsonSailingTyrone Robinson won a bronze medal in the Men’s -58kg category at the European Taekwondo Championships in Rome, Italy.

Caroline Fisher won a silver medal in the -51Kg weight category after losing to Brigitte Yague of Spain by 7-2 in the final.

Louise Mair won a bronze medal in the -47Kg weight category.

Martin Stamper won a silver medal in the -62kg weight category. Stamper lost 4-0 to the experienced German Levent Tuncat in the final.

The Taekwondo Men’s -58kg category takes place on 20th August 2008.

Michael Harvey wins Taekwondo Silver

TaekwondoMichael Harvey won the Silver Medal at the Dutch Open to stake a claim to the Olympic place won by Tyrone Robinson at the European Taekwondo Olympic Qualification Tournament.

There were also medals for other competitors where Britain has Olympic places;
  • Sarah Stevenson won gold in the -72kg category.
  • Aaron Cook won bronze in the -78kg category.

Other medals went to;

  • Louise Mair won gold in the -49kg category
  • Adam Corrigan won silver -84kg category
  • Davoud Etiminani won bronze –72kg category
The Taekwondo Men’s -58kg category takes place on 20th August 2008.

Cook wins Bronze in Olympic Qualification Tournament

Olympic place for Aaron CookSailingAaaron Cook secured a quota pace in the Taekwondo at the European Taekwondo Olympic Qualification Tournament in Istanbul, Turkey.

Louise Mair, from Elgin, missed out on qualification by one point as she was beaten in her bronze medal match of the -49kg category, by the German Sumeyye Gulec.

Qualifiers in the Men's -80kg category

1st : Bahri Tanrikuku (Turkey)
2nd : Rashad Ahmadov (Azerbaijan)
3rd : Aaron Cook (Great Britain)

The Taekwondo Men’s -80kg category takes place on 22nd August 2008.

Robinson wins quota place for Team GB

Cook wins Taekwondo Gold at Youth Olympics

TaekwondoAaron Cook Wins Taekwondo GoldAaron Cook battled through the heat to win taekwondo gold in the men's 63-73kg category at the Australian Youth Olympics.

The 16-year-old Aaron Cook has fond memories of Australia as he also won gold at the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games.

Britiish Competitors also won medals in ther Men's 48 - 55kg Division (Silver - Jonathan Gayle) and Women's 48 - 55kg Division (Bronze - Stella Whitehead).

Teams from Australia, China, Chinese Taipei, Oceania, and New Zealand are competing in the Taekwondo events in Sydney.
