Month End - Number of Posts per Olympic Sport

This end of month is significant because it sees the closure of the first round of the ticket allocation. Our list of requests went into Sportsworld several weeks ago, and now we must wait on tenderhooks to see what we will get!

Coming up in the start of July we have European Triathlon Championships, European Flatwater Canoeing Championships, European Fencing Championships and the Sailing World Championships.

The month will complete with the European Youth Olympic Festival

Wildwater World Champions goes Flatwater for Olympics

Canoe/Kayak - FlatwaterWildwater Gold for Jon SchofieldBritain's Jon Schofield won K1 kayak 500m sprint gold at the European Wild Water Championships in Bosnia. The 22-year-old Lancashirian posted the two fastest times of the event.

Unfortunately for Jon, Wild Water canoeing is not one of the two Olympic Canoeing disciplines, and so he has also been flatwater canoe racing in a bid to win Olympic gold.

Currently, he is forming a formidable partnership in the two-man kayak (K2), with Ben Brown to achieve GB selection. The final of the 500m event takes place on 23rd August 2008.

Two Modern Pentathlon places secured

Heather Fell won European SilverModern PentathlonEight qualification places for Beijing 2008 were available from the European Championships because of the high calibre of modern pentathletes in Europe.

But a top-eight finish doesn¹t guarantee a place on the flight to Beijing. Further qualification opportunities will follow, including at the World Championships and World Cup final and only up to two men and two women per country may qualify.

But there will be two British women modern pentathletes, as Heather Fell took silver and Katy Livingston finished sixth at the European Championships.

Georgina Harland, the bronze medallist at Athens 2004 produced the fastest run in the field, but it was only enough for 12th overall.

The Olympic Women's Pentathlon takes place on 22nd August 2008.
