Month End - Number of Posts per Olympic Sport

We are still awaiting news on our tickets from Sportsworld. We asked for 13 more tickets and are still hopeful that we might get some of the tickets on our first list. They have told us that we should hear something on the 10th December, but given what has happened so far, I doubt that we will.

Willis wins Archery bronze

ArcheryBritain's Alan Willis finished third in the Archery World Cup Grand Final in Dubai.

Wills lost 108-104 to Mexico's Juan Rene Serrano in semi-finals, but beat Italy's Michele Frangilli 103-102 in the bronze medal play-off.

The Men's Individual event takes place on 15th August 2008.

Britain wins four Gymnastic medals

Artistic GymnasticsBeth Twedlle won Gold on the FloorBritain claimed four medals in the International Gymnastics competition in Glasgow.

  • Beth Tweddle won Gold in the Floor exercise.
  • Marissa King won Gold on Vault.
  • Louis Smith won Silver on Pommel Horse Silver.
  • Kristian Thomas won Bronze on Floor.
The women's vault final takes place on the 17th August 2008.

Gavin wins World Boxing Gold

BoxingLightweight (60kg), Frankie Gavin won Britain's first ever Amateur Gold medal at the AIBA World Boxing Championships in Chicago, United States.

He beat the Italian, Domenico Valentino in the final bout. Gavin lead 3:1 at the end of the first round and extended to 8:4 at the completion of round two. With the sore at 13:7 at the end of the third round, Gavin cruised to an eventual 18:10 victory.

However, Gavins' semi-final victory against the reigning 57kg Olympic Champion (Athens, 2004), 60kg World Champion (China, 2005) and 60kg European Champion (Bulgaria, 2006) is the bout that has installed him as the favourite for Olympic Gold.

Gavin advanced to the final with victories over;
  • Omar Ward of Barbados (20:0)
  • Merey Akshalov of Kazakstan (18:9)
  • Ramal Amanov of Azebaijan (21:10)
  • Onur Sipal of Turkey (16:7)
  • Alexey Tishchenko of Russia (19:10)

Day 16The boxing competition takes place throughot the Olympifc programme. Six finals take place on the final day.

Bradley Saunders wins AIBA bronze

BoxingLight welterweight (64kg) Bradley Saunders won a bronze medal at the AIBA World Boxing Championships in Chicago, United States. Saunders lost to the Russian, Gennady Kovalev 8:16 in the semi-final bout. After five contests in eleven days, Saunders can now look forward to competing in Beijing.

Saunders reached the semi-finals with victories over;
  • Boris Katalinic of Croatia 23:12
  • Gumersindo Carrasco Perrera of Argentina (third round stoppage with score at 27:7)
  • Javier Molina of the USA (24:12)
  • Alexis Vastine of France (30:13)


Day 15The finals of the Light welterweight division take place on the 23rd August 2008.
