Yesterday was spent recovering from the Opening Ceremony and checking out the facilities at Choayang Park, which proved toi be a big disappointment.The evening was spent at the Wukesong Culture and Sports Center where the Olympic Basketball is being held in the Gymnasium. We had tickets to see two Women's Basketball Preliminary Matches. Our first match was the US against the Czech Republic. The czechs made a good start but, the americans soon pulled back the eight point deficit to lead after the first quarter and were comfortable 97 - 57 winners. The US men's team were watching and caused a great deal of excitment amongst the chinese fans.
The second match was a much tighter affair and it was only in the final quarter that the Russian team secured the 62 - 57 win against Latvia. Latvia had been leading 48 - 41 after the third quarter.
