Opening Ceremony lives up to expectations

We had the tremendous privilege to see the Opening Ceremony of the Beijing 2008 Olympics last night. It certainly lived up to all the expectations. Everybody seemed to enjoy it tremendously.

There were some fantastic set pieces. The drummers to start, the wall symbology, the one world one dream sequence and the lifting of the final torch bearer into the rafters were all stunning realised.

I'm sure that it was a televsion spectacular. Although for us in the audience there were a couple of minor niggles.

Firstly, the production was all towards the VIPs, so we had a lot of back views of the action. But the main disappointment was that we couldn't see the torch from inside the stadium!

The Games have now begun a sixteen days of competition await.
