Bantamweight (54kg) Joe Murray won a bronze medal at the AIBA World Boxing Championships in Chicago, United States. He was beaten by Mongolian Enkhbat Badar-Uugan in the semi-final, but Murray's performance has earned him a place in the Olympic boxing competition.
Murray reached the semi-finals with victories over;
- Maximilliano Marquez of Argentian (matched stopped in third round with Murray ahead 26:6)
- Carlos Cuadras Quiroa of Mexico (28:19)
- Bruno Julie of Mauritia (26:19)
- Yu Gu of China (14:11)
Murray will be aiming to reach the finals of the Olympic boxing competition on 24 August 2008.
