Bronze Medal and Olympic places for Women's Archery Team

ArcheryBritish women reach semi-finalCharlotte Burgess, Naomi Folkard and Alison Williamson won the Bronze Medal in the team event at the Archery World Championships. Having lost to South Korea 213-216 in the semi-final, Great Britain clinched victory over Italy by 213-210.

On Friday, with Olympic qualififiaction places at stake, the British Women's team had to come back from behind in the 1/8th match against North Korea. Having qualified in fourth place, the team found themselves 96-101 and then 146-150 behind. They managed to tie the match at 197 after the 24 regular arrows, and then again after the first shoot-off. With the third arrow of the second shoot-off Burgess scored a 10 against a 9 for the opponent, to secure three Olympic places also for the British girls.

Day 2The eight teams that will compete in the Beijing Olympics are : South Korea, France, India, Great Britain, Poland, Italy, Chinese Taipei and China. These teams and Colombia (ranked 9th) also qualify three competitors into the individual competition.

The semi-finals and medal rounds of the Women's Archery competition take place on 10th August 2008.
