Women's Sprint

Victoria Pendleton finished sixth in AthensCycling - TrackVictoria Pendleton gave a gutsy performance to finish sixth in Athens, but with World Cup and World Championship winning performances since then, she looks to be the favourite for Beijing.

Form

Victoria Pendleton is currently the dominant rider in women's track cycling. She returned from the recent cycling world championships with three gold medals. She teamed with Shanaze Reade to win the Women's Team Sprint, and then won the Women's Sprint and then won the Women's Keirin on the final day to complete her medal haul. The sprint is the only one of these events that is in the Olympic schedule, so Pendleton will be concentrating on that for Beijing.

Qualification

The Women's Sprint is a twelve competitor event, consisting of;
  • Winner of the event at the "B" World Championships (Cape Town, 26-28 July, 2007)
  • Winner of the event at the World Cup Series (Sydney, Beijing, Los Angeles and Ballerup, 11 November 2007 - 17 February 2008)
  • Winner of the event at the World Championships (Manchester, 27-30 March, 2008)
  • Nine riders based on the UCI Ranking.

What to see

The Women's Individual Pursuit is on our Medal Chances list. We look forward to seeing Pendleton go for Gold in Beijing.
