At Athens 2004, we saw Kelly Holmes win the final of the 1500m on the last day of athletics competition. We had seen her progress throgh some of the earlier rounds of the 800m, but were, unfortunatly, not in the stadium on the night that she won that event. With Kelly retired, two youngsters are starting to make their way forward in international competition.Rebecca Lyne was voted female athlete of the year (2006) by the British Athletics Writers' Association.
Form
Lisa Dobriskey shocked the watching World in winning Commonwealth Gold, in the 1500m at Melbourne
| Name | Age | Event (s) | 2006 Rank | 2006 Championship Performance | Career High (if different) |
| Jo Fenn | 32 | 800m | NR | 7th in Commonwealth Games (2002) | |
| Rebecca Lyne | 24 | 800m / 1500m | 7 | Bronze in European Championships | |
| Lisa Dobriskey | 23 | 1500m | 24 | Gold in Commonwealth Games |
Qualification
As yet, the qualification standards have not been decided for Beijing, but all the athletes on the World Class Podium programme should qualify.
What to watch
We'll be at the Olympic stadium for some of the athletics, with two promising young athletes starting to break through, it will be interesting to see what they can achieve at this years World Championships. Unfortunately, by then we will have had to make our bid for tickets. Rebecca Lyne and Lisa Dobriskey have as good a chance as any British athlete of winning a medal, so I think that we'll be looking for tickets for the women's 800m and/or 1500m finals.
