Mark Lewis-Francis anchors the relay team for Gold at Athens 2004AthleticsAt Athens 2004, The men's sprint relay team claimed Gold, in one of the highlights of the Games. The team beat the Americans by 0.01 seconds and had us jumping up and down in our seats.

Form

The sprint relay team won Bronze at the 2005 World Championships and Gold at the 2006 European Championships. But that team has suffered enormous criticism for their individual failures.

The 4 x400m squad won Silver at Gothenburg 2006 and there are some promising individual performances in the last couple of years.

Qualification

For relay events, a maximum of 16 teams per event will qualify based on the aggregate of the two fastest times achieved at IAAF events in the period of January 1, 2007 to July 16, 2008.

What to watch

The Men's relays both occur on the final day of the athletics competition. With seven finals on this day, this is one of the big highlights of the Olympics Games.
