Steve Backley was the field event athlete that came closest to a medal in Athens, when he finished fourth on the final day of competition. Backley has now retired and it looks like the best chance of a field event medal at Beijing 2008 lies with the men's triple jumping duo of Nathan Douglas and Philips Idowu.Form
| Name | Age | Event | 2006 World Rank | 2006 Championship Performance | Career High (if different) |
| Nathan Douglas | 23 | Triple Jump | 7 | Silver in European Championships | |
| Phillips Idowu | 27 | Triple Jump | 6 | Gold in Commonwealth Games | |
| Jade Johnson | 26 | Long Jump | 23 | Silver in Commonwealth Games & European (2002) | |
| Germaine Mason | 23 | High Jump | 14 | 5th in World Championships (2003) | |
| Goldie Sayers | 24 | Javelin | 19 | 12th in World Championships (2005) | |
| Greg Rutherford | 19 | Long Jump | 16 | Silver in European Championships | |
| Chris Tomlinson | 25 | Long Jump | 27 | 2 x Gold in European Cup (2002 & 2004) |
Qualification
As yet, the qualification standards have not been decided for Beijing.
What to watch
We'll be at the Olympic stadium for some of the athletics, but whether which field events we will see will depend on what other events occur on a specific day.
