Canoing Gold in the Men's K2

A gold in the men’s K2 1000m race capped a powerful performance from the Team GB flat water conoeists at the Australian Youth Olympics.

Andrew Daniels and Stuart Hastings outclassed the experienced Hungarian crew over the final 500m. From the halfway point they struck up a smooth rhythm as they began to haul the opposition back into their sights and overtake them just beyond the 250m mark.

British boats also won Silver in the Women's K1 500m (Rachel Cawthorn), Women's K2 500m (Rachel Cawthorn and Louisa Sawers), Women's K1 1000 (Rachel Cawthorn) and a Bronze in the Men's K4 1000.

Teams from Australia, Chinese Taipei, China, France, Hungary, Japan, New Zealand, South Africa and United States were also competing in the event.
