Wiggins and Cavendish win Madison Gold

Gold in Madison for Wiggins and CavendishCycling - TrackThe pairing of Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish won Gold in the Men's Madison World Championships in Manchester.

Belgium and Denmark gained an early lap, and were then joined by Switzerland. Wiggins and Cavendish managedcto secure plenty of sprint points but every time they troied to take a lap to join the leaders, the move was countered. Finally, the team secured the lap that they needed with only twenty laps remaining. Five teams gained a lap during the race, but the British pair had to hold off a late burst from the Germans to secure the Gold.

2. Roger Kluge & Olaf Pollack (Germany) 13 points
3. Michael Morkov & Alex Rasmussen (Denmark) 11 points
4. Kenny De Ketele & Iljo Keisse (Belgium) 8 points
5. Franco Marvulli & Bruno Risi (Switzerland) 1 point

The Men's Madison takes place on 19th August 2008.
