Kayak Canoe Slalom on Day 4

19 medals are available in ten sports on 12th August with a number of strong British medal chances.

Day four sees us take in another new live event for us, Kayak Canoe Slalom. It's also an event where there is a strong hope of a British Medal, as Campbell Walsh, who won a Slver medal in Athens, will be competing.

In the morning we hope to see some Hockey. We have requested tickets for the Women's Preliminaries games Argentina vs. Great Britain and Australia vs. Spain, but have to await confirmation.

As mentioned above, Campbell Walsh goes for Britain in the K1 Slalom event of the Canoe Kayak. Richard Faulds will be looking to repeat his Gold medal from Sydney in the Men's Double Trap Shooting and Liam Tancock should be competing in the Men’s 100m backstroke in the Swimming Pool. Euan Burton should be a contentor in Men's Half-Middleweight Judo divison.

Over in Hong Kong, the Equestrian Team will be looking for medals as the Eventing discipline completes.

Equestrian Eventing team for Beijing

The British Olympic Association (BOA) have changed the Equestrian - Eventing members of Team GB for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

The change has become necesary due to the injuries sustained to the horses of Zara Philips and Lucy Wiegersma. Daisy Dick and Tina Cook are the two new team members.

Equestrian Team for Beijing 2008

The British Olympic Association (BOA) have selected the Equestrian Dressaage and Jumping members of Team GB for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. The injury to her horse made Ellen Whittaker unavailable for Olympics. The Equestrian events will be taking place in Hong Kong.

Zara Phillips withdraws from Eventing Team

Zara Philips, the European Eventing Champion has withdrawn from the Olympic Team due to an injury to her horse Toytown.

The Equestrian Eventing competition completes on the 12th August in Hong Kong.

Mary King wins European Silver

Mary King won the silver medal at the European Eventing Championshipsin Pratoni, Italy

King and Call Again Cavalier jumped an immaculate clear – one of very few in the day – which saw them climb into the bronze medal position after Germany’s Bettina Hoy and Ringwood Cockatoo took out fence nine.

Their elevation to the silver medal came at the expense of team-mate Phillips however who, along with Toytown, also struggled at fence nine and went onto hit fence 11b as well, recording a score of 19 which lowered them into sixth place.

Nicolas Touzaint of France won the individual title with a score of 29.4, with King’s score of 41.3 just edging that of Bettina Hoy, on Ringwood Cockatoo, on 42.3.

The Equestrian Eventing competition completes on the 12th August in Hong Kong.

European Gold for Team GB

Great Britain won the Gold medal in the team event at the European Eventing Championships in Pratoni del Vivaro, Italy.

The German team has taken a slender lead over the Great Britain after the first, dressage, phase, but Great Britain had three clear rounds on the cross-country to go into the final show jumping phase with a clear lead. The team of Zara Phillips, Mary King, Daisy Dick and Oliver Townend secured Britain's seventh successive European team gold medal

European Team Jumping Bronze earns Olympic place

The British team earned a bronze medal at the European Jumping Championships, in Mannheim, Germany.

Twenty one year old Ellen Whitaker produced a phenomenal performance by jumping clear with one time fault.

Anchorman John Whitaker, on Peppermill, executed a perfect round to secure the Bronze medal for Great Britain and qualification for the 2008 Hong Kong Olympic Games.

The remaining two qualification places went to Sweden and Norway.

The medal round of the Team Show Jumping competition is on 18th August, in Hong Kong.

Campbell Walsh goes for Britain in the K1 Slalom event of the Canoe Kayak, Richard Faulds will be looking to repeat his Gold medal from Sydney in the Men's Double Trap, Michaela Breeze will be competing in the Weighlifting Women's 63kg and Sarah Clark will be competing in the 63 kg category in Judo.
Over in Hong Kong, Zara Phillips and the team will be looking for medals as the Eventing discipline completes.

Sports Personality of the Year

Last night, BBC's Sports Personality of the Year saw four Beijing hopefuls competing for the top prize, which was won by Equestrian's Eventing World Champion Zara Phillips, with Britains first Gymnastics World Gold medal winner, Beth Tweddle third. They were separated by the Golfer Darren Clarke.

The two other Olympic hopefuls who were short-listed were Tennis star Andy Murray and Road Race Cyclist Nicole Cooke.

Chris Hoy (Cycling), Caitlin McClatchey (Swimming), Gail Emms and Nathan Robertson (Badminton), Dean Macey (Athletics), Tim Don (Triathlon), Harry Aikines-Aryeetey (Athletics), Gregor Tait (Swimming), Mick Gault (Shooting) and Steve Williams (Rowing) were amongst those nominated, but not short listed.

Equestrian in Hong Kong

The Equestrian events were one of the highlights of our trip to Athens 2004.

However, the events are being held in Hong Kong in 2008, so will require additional planning, should we wish to attend. We would like to go, as the two days at the Eventing were a major highlight last time.
